Legion Commander: Armor

So here the the bulk of the armor. It took a long time, but every time I work with this material, its a new, great learn experience. Also got to shop around for a lot of cheap materials. Weave is amazing.

The Sketches.

I did the wrapping-you-chest-with-tape-trick. It actually works really well. At least for the pattern.

The pattern cut out of the foam.

Rounding out them boobies.

The torso pieces. It was tricky to figure out how I wanted this to work because Legion Commander has a pretty small waist. But I think I got it close enough.

All together

Chest piece and shoulder pieces (before to the asymmetry)

Here's that left shoulder piece add on.

I prime the foam first...

Then add a bit of black spray paint to break up the monotone

A special blend of gold and bronze paint.

All together

Starting the armlets.

Starting the calf pieces.

The victim

I'm not a huge fan of the fur, but thats what she has, so thats what going to happen
So here it is! All finished! I'll make a separate post with photo shoot pictures.

Legion Commander: Banners

One of the most distinctive parts of Legion Commander are her awesome banners. So here's steps on how I made and attached them.
Backpack: The way to go
Everything starts out as a block...

Much carving later...

TaDa! They are pretty light too. Which is important.

Legion Commander: Helmet

Here is the helmet part of the Legion Commander cosplay I'm working on. I really liked how this one turned out. Its a bit heavy, so I might add a strap when I go to the con.
The pattern. Its kind of like those types of world maps that are a flattened sphere.

Glued and taped together.

Cut out the face opening.

Added the second part

This part was a real pain. Yes, it is a broom, but I cut it a bit so it would curve to the wood base.

Both sides all glued and nailed down.

Added the wood and broom part on and ready to add those wings.

After I attached these, I was so happy because it was actually starting to look awesome and cool

Getting ready for that paint job. And my right hand man makes an appearance!

So shiny. Used a mixed of bronze and gold paint.

Finished! Those wings are pretty tall. Luckily, I still have an inch or 2 when I walk through doors.

Legion commander: Weapon

So for Wondercon this year, I wanted to cosplay some with a huge weapon (because the bigger the better haha). I chose Legion Commander from DOTA 2. Shes one of the characters I love to play (other than Axe... but I don;t think I'll ever be able to cosplay that) and has a really nice silhouette with her weapon and banners.
Heres what she looks like.

So I started with a weapon first. Here is the process and finished piece.

The original sketch (life size). I was going to add the blade at the end, but thought better of it when I realized that meant I wouldn't be able to put the weapon on the ground

The skeleton. Metal conduit and some wood. the wood will also make the smaller, crescent shaped blade near the handle.

My favorite part. Clamping the glue and foam together.

Cut the foam down to size

The basic shape of the blade.

The gold thing that are on the sides of the blade.

Cut everything in half so the wood could be placed in the middle.

More clamping (with wood)

I really liked the size and weight of it so far

Filling in the holes and cracks.

After "sharpening" it and making sure everything was smooth, I put a layer of resin on it. This foam is very impressionable so I think the resin will help with its strength.

Got some belts at the swap meet and wrapped the around the metal. I'm super happy with how this looks. It feels legit too.

The finished product!
