Wolfen Jaeger

I know its a dumb name, but its the only thing I could think of.
Anyway, so here's another project done for Anime Expo. This one is for a friend who wants to do a version of Little Red Riding Hood Wolf Slayer. She asked me to do only the weapon, so when I see the rest of the costume, I'll be sure to post it.

I was given a lot of freedom on this project because this was for an OC. It started off as a very simple sketch, but as I put more work into it, it became more special to me. I'll actually keep this one so I put some unexpected but not un-welcomed details into it.

Also, another practice with fiberglass. Did  a little bit of research and realized that I'm using the worst type of resin for this kind of thing... Perfect. So, for my next project, I'll try some other stuff called Kleer Kote.... hmm
very simple sketch

wood core and foam shapes

core of wood held on by metal screws and plumber's tape
same stuff for the other side
so many clamps
so, clamping worked, but it also warped the hell out of the thing, so what you don't see is hours of sanding and correcting
size comparison
the edges are lined with fiberglass so they don't crack if hit
had some fun with leather. some some light colored leather and dyed it.
close up
covering the ugly, yet very strong wood/plumber tape connections
all the details put on, and gesso-ed
first layer of color. i wanted it to look like a dark gun metal with a lighter colored metal edge
a nice broze-y gold
and FINISHED. pretty sexy

Yasuo the Unforgiven: Sword

Here you go guys! Yasuo's sword (does it have a name?) is done!

And finally too. This project has had its ups and downs. Mostly because I've been testing out different materials to make my weapons stronger so when people walk around with their awesome cosplays, they don't have to worry about their weapons breaking. The biggest change in this project was the introduction of Fiberglass resin. Different from my other resin because this stuff is used to patch holes in boats and the like. Also, the fiber glass itself. The pictures explain better.

the life sized draft with some perspective drawing of the hilt and pommel. (and in the middle is a little cute little clay sculpt I did so I could understand how the shapes fit in together)

after tons of sculpting

I realized that the width of the hilt made the handle super short so I added on... shhh.... no one with know

hilt and shealth together

So the thing that you didn't see in the background is me cooking this pvc pipe with my heat gun in order to get the curve.... the oh so slight curve

testing how Plastidip works to seal the foam

on this test, I sealed the foam in "Killz". A latex wall paint used for covering stains

So, I missed a couple spots and the resin ate through a lot of my sculpt. I was upset, but what was done was done, so I re-sculpted.

After re-sculpting, I sprayed another layer of Plastidip on it.

Worbla-ing the shealth

layer 1 of color

layer 2 of color. I painted it to look more "game like" than just a normal sword

I wanted to add a "shing!" sound effect every time the sword was pulled out.... hmm.... maybe

Here's it all put together. I really like how the handle turned out (hand wrapped by yours truly). This is a pretty sick sword. Nice job Riot for awesome characters

Sneak Peek

Hey everyone! I actually am alive... I've been super busy with some new projects and have been meaning to post an update. So here's a better late than never update.

My next big event will probably be Anime Expo in the LA convention center. I've been redoing parts of Legion Commander with some Worbla I got my hands on. Its a pretty good material (I've seen many amazing things make about of it), but I'm still in the figuring-it-out stage.

Heres a side by side comparison of the old and new, Worbla-fied shin guards. The new ones look so much better.... they just weigh about twice as much....

Another project I'm working on is a sword from a League if Legends character.... Now I don't play LOL (I've tried it), but I do have to admit that there are a lot of rad characters in that game. I've been commissioned to do Yasuo Weapon and Armor. Here are the sketches. I'm a lot farther a long.... but its a stressful thing.... so I'll post the end result when I'm done.

ANOTHER project I have going on (also due by AX) is an axe for a friend who wants to be a version of Little Red Ridding Hood... but like grown up and wolf hunter-y..... Not the most original thing to be, but she actually wanted a big, hearty looking axe, so thats exciting. The circled one is the one she chose.

Legion Commander: More Pictures

So, as promised, here are some more picture of my cosplay as Tresdin, the Legion Commander at the Anaheim Covention Center Wondercon 2014. Tons of amazing people both cosplaying and working the stalls. I bought the Bayonetta artbook (because the angle designs are crazy amazing) and some sticker swag for my car.

Legion Commander: Armor

So here the the bulk of the armor. It took a long time, but every time I work with this material, its a new, great learn experience. Also got to shop around for a lot of cheap materials. Weave is amazing.

The Sketches.

I did the wrapping-you-chest-with-tape-trick. It actually works really well. At least for the pattern.

The pattern cut out of the foam.

Rounding out them boobies.

The torso pieces. It was tricky to figure out how I wanted this to work because Legion Commander has a pretty small waist. But I think I got it close enough.

All together

Chest piece and shoulder pieces (before to the asymmetry)

Here's that left shoulder piece add on.

I prime the foam first...

Then add a bit of black spray paint to break up the monotone

A special blend of gold and bronze paint.

All together

The victim

I'm not a huge fan of the fur, but thats what she has, so thats what going to happen
So here it is! All finished! I'll make a separate post with photo shoot pictures.
